More Than Just a Sunscreen

Shouldn't a sunscreen do more for you than just protect your skin from the ultraviolet rays? Shouldn't it also have all-natural antioxidants and polyphenols to keep your skin looking nice as you age? First off, this all-natural sunscreen has 25% zinc oxide percentage to make this SPF 30. Gentle enough for children, but strong enough for fair skin!

What is SPF 30? Well, SPF is abbreviation for Sun Protection Factor. It's a measure of how well a sunscreen will protect skin from ultraviolet rays. The SPF rating is a measure of the time it would take you to sunburn if you were not wearing sunscreen as opposed to the time it would take with sunscreen on. The number after it gives you higher protection.

And what is zinc oxide? I'm glad you asked. As you probably guessed, zinc oxide is made from zinc, a type of metallic element found in nature. Just like other elemental metals, including iron or electrolytes like magnesium, zinc is able to carry a certain electric charge that gives it special benefits within the body.

Zinc benefits affect different systems of the body, including the immune system, digestive tract, brain and skin - where it is used as a type of important "building block" for protein synthesis, enzyme creation, and metabolic processes.

Without getting all sciencey on you, while zinc itself can be found in nature, zinc oxide is not naturally-occurring, but rather created when zinc is chemically heated and combined with oxygen molecules. The two elements are vaporized, condensed, and formed into a powder that is fine, white, crystallized and sits on top of the skin providing a protective layer.

We only use non-nano zinc oxide. We made the decision years ago not to go with the tinier sized particles. Live Long Sunscreen+ also has carrier oils, iron oxide and rice powder, which all have sun-filtering properties.

Comes in Regular and Lightly Tinted
For lightly tinted, we use brown iron oxide to take that "white" look from our sunscreen so it adds a little color to your skin. It may stain light clothing, so do a patch test first.

As an added benefit, the chemical in lavender essential oil in this sunscreen seems to repel insects, while also giving your skin the antioxidants it needs to promote healthy skin cells.
